I had to take this class in college called, Readings 400, where the first half of the semester we discussed Plato and Aristotle's views on art and poetry and the second half was spent reading what artists had to say about art. I thought it was going to be a really boring class but I actually ended up enjoying it a lot. I made a journal of all my favorite quotes and the quotes I had to memorize for the class. Last night I got out the journal and read through it and came across one of my absolute favorites, so I thought I would share it.

Everyone wants to understand art. Why not try to understand the song of a bird? Why does one love the night, flowers, everything around one, without trying to understand them? But in the case of a painting people have to understand. If only they would realize above all that an artist works of necessity, that he himself is only a trifling bit of the world, and that no more importance should be attached to him than to plenty of other things which please us in the world, though we can't explain them. People who try to explain pictures are usually barking up the wrong tree. -Picasso

I love this quote mainly because it is so true. I have had many people tell me that they would like art more if they understood it better...why do you have to understand it? Then there are people like me that try to understand it too much at times and I really have no idea what I am talking about! I love art. I love learning about all kinds of art but I love learning about the artists themselves the most. I guess it helps me understand their art more. :)

Where's your foot?!

Today is my best friend's birthday...Happy Birthday Beck! Becky and I have been friends since Junior High when she thought I liked her boyfriend. Ya know what they say, keep your friends close but your enemies closer. Ha Ha. Well, it didn't take her long to figure out that I didn't like her boyfriend but we stayed friends and when her and that boy broke up a year later, we became the best of friends. We've been through a lot together throughout the years. We haven't let the miles come between our friendship either since we haven't lived in the same state for 6 years. She is one of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life. She knows the real meaning of friendship and is always by my side whenever I need her. Even when I do stupid things, she is there for me, after she lets me know that I was in the wrong. :) In honor of her birthday I thought I would share some pictures of the past....enjoy.

Picnic and Snow?

Last Saturday Zach and I had a picnic in the park because it was 73* outside. There was a slight breeze which made it perfect weather to wear shorts and t-shirts. It was so nice to be outside for most of the day. I was starting to like the idea that winter was over.

Zach thinks I am a total nerd for being so excited for snow! It's so crazy to think that last week we were having a picnic in shorts and t-shirts and now it's winter again! The best part is Zach's school closed early and since we didn't have a Doctor in our office today we left early also. :)

Anniversary #3

Zach and I celebrated our third anniversary on the 19th of February. After we were done with work and school for the day we went to dinner at P.F. Changs. YUM! That weekend we went to Nashville (about 3 hours away) and we had a blast! As soon as we got there we met up with our friends, Ben and Natalie Love, who were in our ward back in Rexburg but now live in Nashville. We spent the whole day with them as they showed us all the sights!

It was so nice to spend time with Ben and Natalie, it almost felt like we were home since we know them from Idaho :) It was fun to talk with them about all the differences of the South! Thanks Ben and Natalie! We had a blast!
